Historically, the San Diego Reader has always done two important jobs: 1) informing people of what’s happening in the community, and 2) providing a vehicle for small businesses to find new customers. From the beginning, as a traditional print media outlet, we’ve always done extremely well. As the world became more and more digital, however, we knew that in order to continue to thrive, it was crucial to expand both our own platform and our services into the digital space. So that’s exactly what we did. We gave the Reader a robust and engaging online presence to expand our reach and to continue our mission to inform the community and help small businesses grow.

Before long, we were crushing the competition. The Reader consistently had a higher website ranking, more followers on social media, and a more engaged audience than other media outlets, particularly in radio and print—by far.

Our advertising clients noticed, too. As the Reader continued to flourish in the digital space, many clients approached us for advice and help with improving their online presence and audience engagement. We offered tips and strategies and helped set up a Facebook account here and there, but they needed and wanted more. They wanted us to help them do for their businesses what we’d already done for ourselves.

Slowly, on a case-by-case basis, we began to expand our services, leveraging the skills and competencies we already had in-house, to help our clients build and strengthen their online presence. The demand grew quickly, eventually leading to the full suite of digital marketing services now offered at the Reader Digital Agency.

When the Reader Digital Agency began in earnest, we started with two people dedicated solely to helping our clients build and maintain their online presence. Today, our crew of 18 (and growing) includes teams that specialize in social media, website design and development, blogging and content creation, and photography and videography. These teams have long been a part of the Reader’s success—we’ve just expanded them so they’re big enough to work on behalf of our clients as well.
